At zukunft.bahnhof, the future is lived, conceived, and created. Around Lichtensteig train station, a sustainable area for living, culture, gastronomy, and education will be developed over the next few years. Our model project aims to demonstrate how a vibrant, diverse, and forward-looking place can emerge through the interplay of different people and uses. And it should inspire others to try similar models. Our guiding principles are:

The zukunft.bahnhof site is located near Lichtensteig train station in the municipality of Wattwil and will be the focal point of the evolving neighbourhood around the station.
The historic town of Lichtensteig represents the renaissance of rural areas that were affected by the post-industrialisation structural disruption. A high density of innovative citizen-led projects, currently makes it one of the most dynamic places in Switzerland.
zukunft.bahnhof is a unique meeting and experimental space. High-quality, sustainable living space will be complemented by a restaurant, cultural offering, and accommodation, as well as in-house consulting services.

The future begins on a small scale. Here and now. We at zukunft.bahnhof are developing the area around the Lichtensteig train station (municipality of Wattwil) into an open space for living, working, and culture. We are doing this together with people who, like us, want to work on a communal and sustainable vision of living together. We embrace experimentation as well as the goal of achieving local and sustainable impact. Openness and exchange are central to us. Because ultimately, we want to learn together – and invite you to live, think, and create a different tomorrow together.
