The zukunft.bahnhof foundation aims to develop and showcase future-proof projects in Lichtensteig, the Toggenburg region, and beyond. Founded in 2021, it owns the property in the Lichtensteig train station area, including the station hall, and co-initiated the overall zukunft.bahnhof project.

Since the launch of the overall project, the various departments – housing, culture, gastronomy, and the impact lab – of zukunft.bahnhof have operated independently. The foundation also operates independently. At the same time, it continues to accompany and support the overall project. The foundation aims to enable and foster what is meant to emerge. In particular, it seeks to strengthen the interplay between the various departments of zukunft.bahnhof and other local initiatives, especially in the areas of communication, mediation, and coordination.

 

At the same time, it aims to contribute, on a broader level and using the Lichtensteig/Wattwil site as an example, to a sustainable interplay between foundations, civil society, and politics/administration. In this sense, it serves as a testing ground and a model, helping to rethink these relationships.
