what's new
the last storm before the calm

Starting in June, the theater will undergo renovations, and performances will be suspended for a year. Before that, however, there will be three spectacular events.

21. - 31. Mai: Chössi Theater - Spind’l … Sp’ich’r — Still‘

The final event before the renovation is the Chössi Theater’s in-house production, running from May 21–31. It explores a chapter of Toggenburg’s history that is as significant as it is long-suppressed: the so-called “fallen girls,” who were forced to perform hard labor in textile factories in the middle of the last century. A powerful examination of a repressed part of our past.

Effective immediately, Pascal Häring—who oversees our cultural programming—will assume artistic responsibility for cultural activities at the Bahnhalle. For the 2025–26 season, he is planning a “transitional program” featuring approximately 15 events.

In April 2026, as every year, the Kanti Wattwil theater group will perform its new play in the Bahnhalle, and in May, the Chössi Theater association will stage an original production written specifically for Toggenburg. We are particularly looking forward to that.

Starting in June 2026, the theater will undergo extensive renovation, and the cultural program will take a one-year hiatus before resuming in the fall of 2027 with a renewed infrastructure and a coordinated program organized by us and the Chössi Theater Association. Under the new operating structure, the Chössi Association will be responsible for its own program, featuring around 8 annual events.

Bahnhalle: A New Look Starting in 2027

The theatre in the "Bahnhalle" is evolving. Starting in June 2026, the Theater in Bahnhalle Lichtensteig will get a new look—and, at the same time, reclaim a piece of its history.

The theater auditorium, housed within the walls of the former hotel, used to be twice as high. We are restoring this original ceiling height. This will create an open space that can be used, depending on the occasion, as a charming small theater for intimate audience experiences or as a light-filled hall. A place for great stories, soft sounds, and moving moments.

We are installing a modern theater infrastructure: professional technology, a flexible seating solution, and a harmonious lighting concept. Everything needed to ensure the theater continues to inspire in the future and the space can be used in a variety of ways.

Our goal:

A contemporary theater space for all genres—from theater and dance to circus—that inspires artists and moves audiences. A place for the culture of tomorrow—right in the heart of Toggenburg.
