Arts Co-Director (60%)
From autumn 2026 | Lichtensteig SG
Would you like to help develop a new arts venue? Are you keen to work with others to build structures, support artists, try out new formats and see culture as part of social development?
Then we might be a good fit.
A new venue for the performing arts is being created in Lichtensteig – building on the existing Chössi Theatre. Centred around the historic railway station, zukunft.bahnhof is developing a cultural venue for theatre, dance, literature, cabaret, contemporary circus and interdisciplinary formats. A venue for
guest performances, residencies, courses and in-house productions. Embedded within a larger project for communal living, regenerative development and cultural participation.
To further develop the project, we are looking for a second person to take on the role of co-director of the cultural organisation on an equal footing, starting in autumn 2026.
Your responsibilities
We will work together to define your exact responsibilities – depending on your experience, interests and strengths.
You will...
-
help curate the cultural programme, particularly in the areas of theatre, children’s and youth theatre, and literature
-
support guest performances and artists
-
help establish and further develop the residency programme
-
develop courses and educational programmes
-
contribute to festivals and in-house productions
-
get involved in fundraising and public relations
-
foster collaborations with cultural practitioners, institutions and partner organisations
-
help shape a collaborative and regenerative cultural organisation
-
contribute to the further development of zukunft.bahnhof and its various departments
What you bring to the role
You don’t need to be able to do everything. But this role is likely to suit you if you:
-
have experience in theatre, literature, children’s and youth theatre, or a related field
-
have previously organised projects, programmes or cultural events
-
are keen to help build something from the ground up
-
enjoy working with people
-
Can take on responsibility
-
Not only develop ideas, but also put them into practice
-
Can identify with the values of zukunft.bahnhof
-
Live in the region or can envisage moving to be near us
Experience in project development, grant funding, cultural financing, public relations or cultural marketing is also an advantage, as is a strong network within the cultural scene.
If you don’t tick every box but feel, whilst reading this, that ‘this could be the place for me’, we’d still love to hear from you.
What you can expect
-
the rare opportunity to help shape a new cultural venue
-
a varied role with plenty of scope for initiative and input
-
a dedicated team and close collaboration within the Stage department as well as with the other departments at zukunft.bahnhof
-
collaboration with a broad cultural network in Lichtensteig and beyond
-
plenty of creative freedom and responsibility
-
flexible working hours and some remote working
And yes:
The role involves regular evening and weekend work.
Start date: 1 October 2026 or by agreement
Location: Lichtensteig SG
